Outdoor
Sculptures -
Jardins du Chateau
de Bois-Guilbert, Normandy, France
by sculptor Laury Dizengremel
On this
page, one of three outdoor sculptures displayed 21 June to 21 September
2003 in a summer exhibition of sculpture in the sculpture park
surrounding a small Chateau in Normandy, called Jardins de Bois Guilbert.
This was a temporary garden sculpture entitled "Confidences" - which
started as a tribute to my sister Maguite. I actually used two busts
that had recently been commissioned by a couple in Bristol of their
daughters, and for the bodies used my own two teenage daughters,
their bodies patiently covered in jute scrim loaded with reinforced
plaster. The inspiration? An old metal bed I found in a farm dump in
Sussex, those special moments shared with my sister, who is also my
friend and confidante, and indeed special moments shared with my
closest girl friends through the years of my life.
Jean-Marc de Pas, the Chateau's owner and a fellow sculptor, cleverly
landscaped several "chambres vegetales" (garden rooms), and I used one
of them for this sculpture as it was an ideally intimate setting for my
sculpture within the gardens.
