Second Press Release: Belvoir
Artist-in-Residence
'New
Sculpture Trail Planned
for the Vale of Belvoir
“Belvoir
3Rs: Reclaimed, Recycled, Raw”
An
invitation is being issued to art students across the UK
to apply for the "Belvoir 3Rs", challenging them to submit concepts for
large-scale outdoor sculptures along a trail in the Vale of Belvoir, a
stone’s
throw from Belvoir Castle – home of the Duke and Duchess of
Rutland.
A
project conceived by award-winning sculptor Laury
Dizengremel, the “Belvoir 3Rs: Reclaimed, Recycled,
Raw” sculpture competition / challenge is
one way to further sensitize local residents and art students
throughout the UK
to issues of sustainability. It’s also a great vehicle to
allow emerging sculptors
to come up with innovative ways of using reclaimed, recycled and raw
materials
from the local area. The sculptures created by them must last a minimum
of one
year in the beautiful but often harsh rural East Midlands environment.
Besides
opening the challenge up nationally to art students
from A level to practice-based PhD courses, Laury is involving students
from
the area’s secondary school, Belvoir High School in
Bottesford, who will
workshop with her their own ideas for a sustainable sculpture using
such materials.
To
be fair, she’s also giving a chance to one of the 12 primary
schools in the immediate
area to come up with a concept as well. Both schools projects will be
created
on the trail along with those selected from amongst the national
competitors.
The
Duchess of Rutland is the project’s first patron, donating
1800 bulbs which were removed from the Castle last year to be replaced
by new
energy light bulbs.
A
full brief and entry forms for the challenge are available
